Launched dinghy off from behind the Usk store after teaching wifes friend how to fish with bobber and worm on shore. First fish I saw was a 20"+ pike upside down in the weeds. Noticed very large LMB around the pilings. Hooked into a 22" squaw fish on a kastmaster in chrome. Did I mention that the bass I saw were HUGE? Anyways, lots of tiny perch and bass were caught from shore, I didnt get any pike like I wanted to. Milfoil machine guys made a lot of noise coming through and pretending to work on their craft for almost two hours. That machine is a waste of time and money. Harvests maybe 5% of the area its in. Guy pulled up around lunch and said he got an 18" pike there two days ago. Sorry Kalispells and WDFW but once theyre in, theyre in for good. Gillnet all you want, cant kill everything. Ever seen pike spawn? Anyways, back from my rant- cant wait for temperatures to drop back down to do longre fishing trips. 3 hours wasnt nearly enough to figure out whats going on here.

quantum,
You may be right about once they're in they're in but I can tell you from recent experience that about all that is left of the pike population are the little ones that got through the nets. I fished with another experienced fisherman last weekend for an entire day on the POR and we managed 4 very small pike. This once great pike fishery has been demolished. We did however manage to catch 3 very nice large mouth bass with the biggest being just shy of 6 pounds. We also located a very large population of small mouth bass that had a ton of fight in them. The POR is still an excellent bass fishery but as far as the pike go, the WDFW and the tribe have done exactly what they set out to do. Wipe them out. I just hope the state of Idaho does not show the same disregard for the public desire to chase these great sport fish, and follow in the same footsteps. If they do it will likely progress the same way things did in Washington. Study, Lie by pretending to care what the fishing public thinks, then kill.
