Took my dad up to the Skagit River to try to catch some Pink Salmon. We launched from Gardner around 7:30am, my dad in my boat and my brothers in my younger bros Jon boat. Tried a few spots just downstream of the launch where I saw fish caught last week with no luck. Then we decided to make the trip downstream past he i5 bridge where we caught 2 limits of pinks last weekend. Didn't take long for my dad to get his first fish down there. It put up a nice fight for him as he was using a 7" ml rod. Bonked that one and back to fishing. My dad gets another one a while later, then I finally get one in the boat a while after that ( my first fish spit the hook and buzz bomb busted my dad in the lip). In the mean time, by bros are also catching fish just upstream of us. It gets slow, so we decide to see whats farther downstream of the i5 bridge area. We motor down there a ways and fish 1 spot for a while, but the water just seemed too dirty, and moving too fast, so we motor right back up to where we were at. Last fish is caught by my dad on a pink squid jig at our usual spot. In the end, my bros caught 3, me 1 and my dad 3 for a total on 7 pinks in our 2 boats. I didn't see many fish surfacing like they were last weekend. I wonder if last week was just a big run of early fish, because we had to work a lot harder to get fish than we did last week. 3 of our fish came on 2" gibbs blizzards (buzz bombs) and the other came on a 1/4 oz pink squid jig. 2 of the fish in my bros boat came on 1/4 oz pink squid jigs and 1 of a 2.5" buzz bomb. Does anyone know how the fishing is around the Edgewater park area, and farther downstream? Good luck out there.
