For the past week, been fishing the Skagit and Snohomish river systems - it's been tough. Typically I fish the Snohomish for pinks, but been poking at the Skagit since the reports have been good and I've seen several fish caught, unlike the Snohomish. Yesterday I hit the Snohomish to see if any fish were moving upriver or if any fish caught, nada. Like staring at a lake, no jumpers, just a lot of fisherman practicing losing gear, seems silly fishing for fish that aren't in, but I'm also guilty as charged. These are the only fish I caught fishing at riverfront park, daring little guys on my 2.5 oz buzz. Today, I woke up at 4 and my friend Brian and I headed to the Skagit. It has risen about 3 feet since last Thursday, and murky like chocolate milk - only a few inches of visibility. Saw no fish caught at the usual spot outside Sedro, near the creek. Saw a good number of fish caught last week, when the water was lower and the visibility was better. Don't know if rain will be good or bad for the Skagit, since the water gets so murky and high, but I know rain will send a good flow of pinks upstream. Learning the ways of plunking in Skagit, its truly an artform. Every fisherman has a different way of doing it, and always hear about old timer tricks and have learned many new tricks each trip meeting new fisherman. I need to break this skunk fast, as I am losing motivation to wake up so early just to get to the holes at dawn. Need that tug drug bad! Happy fishing all and good luck in the upcoming several weeks!

Fish are up River in Hamilton and Lyman now. I drift Dick Nites but when I plunk I use a 4oz dropper and then a 3' ldr with a Spin-n-Glow (clown was best) and sandshrimp on a 1/0 hook. I nailed 3 punch cards in 2011. If fishing the Hamilton bar my best spot was upper end of bar as far as you can go and cast only about 15 yards from shore.

Good update on the fish in Snohomish. I am still planning to go on August the 16th the opener for fishing near the 522 bridge.

That one fish looks like a small steelhead.
