My dad and I were up at Whidbey Island to clean up the family beach cabin, and decided that when the work was completed, we would reward ourselves with some fishing. Finished working, and went up to Deer Lake. Pumped up the Sevylor Fish Hunter and loaded it up and rowed off to our secret spot. We anchored up and rigged our poles for Powerbait with about a 3 1/2' foot leader with an egg hook. Used Orange and Green Powerbait in about 15-20 feet of water, and the action was nonstop, with fish jumping all over. Fished here for an hour, and every cast but 2 out of about 20 combined between 2 poles had a bite or a hookup. It was windy so we slowly reeled in to keep our lines tight. Caught about 7 fish here from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. Two of them were 13 1/2" and one 14 1/2" incher. All were Rainbows and on 5 foot Light action poles with 6lb. test we had some great fights with strong runs and leaps from the fish. All fish were over 12". Thank goodness for some nice fish. All of the Rainbow trout in the other King County lakes I have been to like Pine and Boren have only produced 9" fish on average, nothing over 10" and no color to the fish. These fish at Deer were beautifully colored as always. I wanted to let that fish go so bad so it could possibly carryover another year or let someone else enjoy the fight we had with it and make their day like it did ours. We then trolled back to the dock and caught 3 fish on Rooster Tails tipped with worms, and these were also about 12 1/2" inches. Total of 10 fish caught. Also, at the State Park, some idiots had already been through with their Paintball guns and shot everything. Tree's, fences, signs, posts, Honey-Bucket and all. Some paintballs were in the water. The signs had so much green paint on them you couldn't read them. If I would have caught them I would have made them clean it all up or turn them in. It looks awful. Anyways, the lake is full with fish. Good luck and leave the place cleaner than you found it.
