Well, after years of trying I got my first ever coho. A 6 pound native hen took a Mepps Aglia on the upper Sky above Reiter. The fish seriously inhaled the spinner, hooking itself in the tongue deep in the mouth (I had to use pliers for this). This proves that the coho on the Skykomish aren't constantly lock jawed, especially if you reel slowly. A little dark and worn from being in the river, it didn't really take any runs, and wouldn't stop chasing its tail and head shaking. It wasn't bright enough to keep so back into the river it went. I'm really happy to have finally caught a salmon other than a pink! A native fish too! My friend also got a few nice pinks out of the lower Sultan River, with one hitting in really fast steelhead water. Since late August he's caught five more coho in the upper main river including a 15 pound hatchery steelhead and a bright buck coho that must have weighed up to 16 pounds (pictured), all on Mepps spinners.

Nice fish. The first is the hardest they will come easier to you now I bet. but remember the sultan river is closed to salmon fishing you should tell your buddy before the game warden does.

That's one hell of a coho your buddy has. Nicest one posted on this site yet that I've seen.
