Today, I hit both sides of the prison/reformatory hole on the Sky. After walking down the bar and unsuccessfully trying my luck there, I came back toward the Tualco Loop parking & found a nice spot where there was a shallow run. Managed to land a humpie buck that was still in good shape--but back to the water he goes. After a while, this cool guy joined me in the spot & I managed to land another humpie on a spinner. He landed a couple humpies, and thought I should try out a jig he was using. Much to my amazement, I landed a couple more humpies before checking out other areas of the Sky. Beautiful day out there, by the way.

Eventually, I made it back to my homebase on the Sky on the west bank at the Prison hole. Tried a few spoons, buzz bombs with no luck. Then I switched back to a light green (not chartreuse) Vibrax knock-off spinner, and after a few casts it felt like a freight train hit my lure. Within seconds of setting the hook, this beast soars out of the water two feet to show me he is a coho. Being that catching a silver is my goal for this summer/fall, I felt an adrenaline rush as I battled this monster. While it took off downstream, I maintained the rod tension and scrambled to get my net ready. Not quite sure how it happened, but it shook hard and snapped my line. Bye bye first silver on the river, bye bye awesome lure. After that battle, I managed to get snagged on something and lost two more lures. :(

Does anyone have any pointers for catching silvers on the Sky? Am a little shy about drifting & jigging as I have lost quite a few Dick Nites, jigs, and even spinners. Could be my set-up isn't ideal?

Float eggs. Drift fishing in the river is a game of alway throwing away gear. if it is a snaggy area try floating eggs just above the bottom. Silvers love fish eggs.

I caught two on dick nites on Sunday, use less weight and just "skip" the bottom, don't "drag" were weight across it. Good luck.

makscoot, do you find a particular color or size of DN works best? Also, how far out from shore (assuming you bank fished) should you cast?

strider43, how long of a leader do you use, or how deep do you suspend it? Also, what kind of weight do you use to keep the eggs straight down from the float/bobber?

Thanks guys!

Just keep fishing and you will figure it out. We can all tell you about baits and lures but it comes down to how you fish and there is no substitute for experience. Hang in there!
