While the regs don't say you can't keep cutts in the Sky, they must be at least 14 inches. I personally never keep any trout from these rivers with the exception of hatchery steelhead. IMO, even a "rainbow" over 14 inches should not be kept because they can still carry the genes of our wild steelhead and can indeed be the parent of wild steelhead.

10/28/2013 6:11:00 PMI disagree about the cutts, they are abundant and can be kept if over 14" and there is no need to feel bad about it. but i do agree the rainbows should be left alone. it seems like 95% of the trout i catch in the rivers are cutts.

10/29/2013 12:25:00 AMThe coho run isn't over...not even close. We just need some more rain to push that fresh batch of fish upstream. Should be great after the weekend.

These are beautiful creatures that share almost the same habits as steelhead and fight extremely well for their size. I still can't understand the disconnect why WDFW would not let you retain them in the salt but once they come in the rivers where they of course get funneled and deceivingly appear more, then they allow you to retain them. Yes it may be legal (check the regs) in some rivers to keep them but It sure would be awesome to have consistency in the rules. For me, I enjoy the fact that they are there and on occasion, save a really bad day of fishing like it did yours. I personally release them. It's not always all about the meat they hardly have any in them anyway....
