Decided to check out the theory that heavy rain might make the fish less wary, so went out in high winds and torrential downpour to see if it might loosen up the locked jaws of a coho. The idea is that they feel less threatened because the rain breaks up the surface of the water, especially where the fish are in conditions where the river has dropped recently and the pools are small. Caught a 4 lb Coho on a 50/50 Dick Nite spoon, drift fishing from shore near where the Wallace dumps in. I rated the day a three even though just one fish, because it was pretty cool being out in the elements. Didn't see another fisherman until I was packing up my gear to hike out. The toughest part was driving to and from the river, because multiple traffic lights were turned into four way stops because the power was out. ;- ( Something nice about being out in the elements if you can stay reasonably dry and bring along a thermos of hot coffee, though! ;-D

Dry on the outside and warm on the inside...that's the stealhead fisherman's mantra there!
