Got to gold bar at around 5:30 and ready to go to reiter but there was just way too many cars so i we tryed elsewhere. At around 7 the bite was good for small 15" hatchery steelhead and some bait stealing whitefish. Later at around 8 I hooked up with a big fish and sure enough it was a steelhead,it takes a few turn and jumps and spits the hook. NO!! Still trying to land my first one so i was bummed. Rebaited and same spot again hooked up but this one stuck! After a scary heart pounding fight with the steelie running out in the fast current i land it! My first steelhead Ever!!!! Also the best day ever!!!!!!! What an awesome day and a great way to start the 2014 summer steelhead season. Just an amazing feeling and adrenaline rush!

Congrats man! The first one is the hardest one. They come easier now. Good job ditching the crowds.

Even better, while it is great to be there for big action, long term learning how to avoid the crowds is better. I fished later in the day, one small smolt buried a spinner, no regrets, it was nice out there!

My buddy also got his first steelhead on his first outing trying for steelies. It was a good day on the river. Hope to get out there and do it again soon.
