i got a phone call from dj butler this morning to see about hitting the snohomish, and off i went. we met up around 2:30, just in time for receding tide :/ on the way there i overheard another group of anglers "its still a bit too early, there arent many fish in yet" i beg to differ. i will say for pinks they are being very selective, but there are certainly plenty of fish to be had right now.
after seeing no action in a lower hole we fished we decided to ford the entire snohomish river to find a prime bar that wasnt crowded, this was a good move. we were both skunked until about 5:30pm then the tide switched and it was lights out knock em dead fishing for about 1 hour, in this time i hooked up and lost 2 fish and missed several bites and landed my limit, mr. butler missed too many hook ups and bites to count, he nailed. his first 3 in short order, but then it was the curse of the almost limit that struck him, he kept getting hits and brief hook ups but just couldnt stay connected. we ended up having to leaving at 7pm due to fiance/wife while the fish were still rolling and hitting, if he couldve stayed 10 more minutes im sure he wouldve limited out.
my home tied 3/8oz white head pink/white maribou jig scented with sandshrimp oil caught every single fish that both of us caught today, it was the hot jig for sure. we saw huli isda leave with his limit today too. hoping to see his report too. plenty of fish caught by others today aswell.

Nice stacks, yah people are so impatient, when they don't see any fish jumping and rolling they will quit and think there is no more fish in the area. I caught most of my fish she water looks dead. As jonb said if your not fishing bottom you ain't fishing at all. Nice to see you jonb, hoping to fish with you guys side by side someday.

May need to change jigs. Saw fish tonight near Snohomish. No biters though. Using 1/4 oz pink head jig with hootchie skirt and shrimp oil. Curious, are you using braid for mainline and leader material? I'm just using 8lb max ultragreen mono, but thinking I may need to go to braid for better feel.

im using 8lb maxima ug, i hate flourocarbon, and if i can avoid leader set ups i do. perhaps the water your jigging is too deep for a 1/4oz jig though. i like 5'-10' for 1/4oz jig, 10'-15' for 3/8th jig 15' + dont bother... thats buzzbomb territory.

JonB, we put on a dang clinic out there bro. I didn't have any bites what so ever with the 1/4 oz squid jig and as soon as I switched to one of JonB's special I had 3 fish landed in 20 minutes and lost several others. THOSE JIGS WORK!!! Thanks again for hooking me up. I look forward to purchasing in the near future!

Yup, I gave up squid jigs last humpy run since I learned to tie my own jig. It works best for me for all salmon and steelhead in rivers. Its its always feels good when you caught something from what you made of. Its rewarding. I used 1/4 jigs, and let it reach deep before I start a very small twitches. I'm using 6-8 lbs test mono.

decided to tie some of my own today. One with rabbit strip tail and two others with marabou tail. All jigs with chenille body and krytal flash added to the sides of the tails. We'll see how it goes.

@john maher-the jig you described should slay them. chenille is my favorite material for adding scent, turns the body into a scent sponge. i find crystal flash in the tail to be a nessecity as well. youll reep what you sow with that.
@mr. butler thanks man, it was super fun, i look forward to our next outing.
