Heidi (my girlfriend) and I decided to try the fishing at "Fishtrap." We
arrived at "Fishtrap Lake Resort" around 5:00pm Friday afternoon. We had
camp completely set up by 6:00 and were eating dinner by 7:00. The
teenagers in the site next to us spent those two hours playing cards,
calling each other names and swearing to embarrass a sailor, and not in that
order. While we were eating dinner, another group set up in the campsite on
the other side of us and joined the chorus of swearing. After the dishes
were done, we went down to the dock and fished until dark. Our bait was
constantly harassed by 3" bluegill, and there was no sign that there was any
other kind of fish in the lake. The only ones getting any bites were the
mosquitoes. We planned to try again in the morning.
We tried to get some sleep. 'Tried' being the operative word. After the
swearing died down, we were plagued by the music, and "enthusiastic"
discussions from other campsites. This continued until the wee hours of the
morning.
We did not go fishing in the morning. We were too tired to have enjoyed it.
Instead we broke camp. In fact, we were so anxious to get out of there that
we were packed by the time the office opened at 6:00. We spoke briefly
with the campers across from us who were also unhappy with the experience.
My girlfriend went down to the office to complain about all the swearing
during the day and noise during the night. The manager was unsympathetic.
Not only does the "resort" not have any kind of noise ordinance, but the
manager was one of the people making the noise in the middle of the night.
Needless to say he was not going to refund our money. Our experience there
was so miserable that we will never consider the possibility of going there
again.
As far as the fishing goes, we never saw any sign of any fish other than the
3" bluegill.
