Fished lower Thomas Eddy from 2-4pm. Floated eggs under 1.5 oz float. Hook had a black/purple, and touch of pink, yarn ball. First fish hooked on in the middle of retrieving my bait after a long float - wasn't expecting that. Put up a fun fight and I landed my first Coho. 21" female. About 45min later I was at the end of my float path didn't think I had a bite but the float went down when I pulled the line to retrieve. Wasn't sure if it was a snag or bite. It started fighting a few seconds later and i knew it was "fish on". Fish swam toward me and made me work to keep him on my hook. Nice big buck. I think he weighed in at 6 or 6.5 lbs at the house.

Learned after I landed this big buck that my deep net does not play well with my chain stringer. I think I spent 30 min in the middle of the river untangling my net from my stringer while trying to keep the fish in the net. Would have walked to the shore but I had never fully crossed there before and didn't know how deep it went. I found out next day that it was easily doable. Ditched the chain stringer and took the hooks off of it to make a homemade one using 550 cord. Only need 3 hooks anyway.

Big thanks to this forum and all the fishing reports you guys have been posting, as well as everyone who has replied to my comments or questions. It has helped this newbie tremendously.

Good news. They aren't that hard to get when you get it right. I'm still trying this year.
