Coho Salmon

Fished the river this morning, not much surface activity. Finally starting to see a lot of zombie pinks coming down river. Anyways, the fishing was slow. The first couple hours after sunrise was pretty dead. After that though, it picked up a little bit. Hooked a bunch of jacks, and a few adults. Llost a very nice 7-8lb chromer a couple feet from the shore where it bit. Bonked two 20" hens, three jack size hens (17-19"), and finished my limit off with a 22" buck. The fish were pretty aggressive. At one point, I was sight fishing them with just about every lure I had and was having a lot of success.

Nice work! First time seeing a 6 fish limit. A 5 star day in my book.

Are you allowed that many adult salmon on the green? Not fished it but it says 6 limit with 3 adult max.

I see it now, jack salmon is not gender specific and determined based on size so all good.

Hey, its all good. Just asking, didn't mean it to come over badly. Different rules on different rivers. Good stuff getting a limit! I've not got one in 5 days now and I'm getting withdrawal symptoms.

It's better not to see jumping fish, it keeps your expectations lower. Those fish are usually on the move and aren't biting.

Jack salmon are gender specific, they specifically refer to immature males. Coho jacks are under 16 inches. I hate to be a downer, but those 17-19 inch "jack sized hens" were adults and should have been marked as such or released. I hear game wardens are not very forgiving (but I am not going to rat you out to them or anything).

Disregard that comment, coho up to 20 inches apparently can be marked as jacks now

That's not a new law, that size limit has been around since before I started fishing for salmon in 2009.
