UNREAL just an FYI the wdfw along with tribal authorities have closed the Skagit and the Stilly effective Monday for all salmon. The Skagit river has tons of coho in it and they say there aren't enough fish to keep it open, it was suppose to be open until January 15th. I have fished every day this week and caught solid numbers of fish as I was letting all the tribal boats have the right of way since I was in my boat like I'm suppose to do. I watched for 4 days as they caught everything their nets could catch and they pulled out Thursday and on Friday they make the discision to close the river due to minimal numbers of returning fish. Sorry to vent but something has to be done I took videos of them unloading tons of fish into their trucks along with tons of huge kings(that's closed to us also) that were so dark and ready to spawn. I called Millcreek office to vent and all I get is a recording. What happening to our fisheries we all know the answer. So everyone call your wdfw office and let them know your're not happy. Your river is next!

It is unfortunate that they have to close the river. A quick question though is it also closed for the tribal netters?

That reeks of being unfair - so it stinks! I was up there Friday looking around and almost no one was fishing considering the size of the river. I saw silvers hitting the surface so there were active fish. It smacks of bad politics because the netters are taking too many fish.

I think the wdfw may be trapped by other politicos who push EPA for everyone but tribes. What a shame.

It is not the truck loads of netted fish day after day being removed from the river that are ruining the runs it's those dam sport fishermen and them lethal fishing poles. All sarcasm aside I would be curious to know the number of fish netted per season vs. the number of sport caught fish. I just can't see sport fishing effecting numbers by much. F-ing ridicules if you ask me! The video you took of them loading the trucks with salmon was probably more salmon then the sport fishermen catch all season!

Can you get me those photos and videos, I am a board member of the north sound cca chapter, we have some influence and know the right people to talk to, we were the ones that got the nooksack reopened, with the video evidence you have we would have a chance to do the same on the skagit, please contact me at [email protected], thanks

I think some of the indian netters complained about not having free rein over the fishing holes. It makes it much easier for them with us off the river. Pretty disgusting that this can happen.

I really dont think its hate starting......i think its just some honest fishermen venting and voicing their opinions about how the netters are priority with fisheries...I used to hunt and fish the skagit country but just got tired of all the wasting of fish and all the elk that were shot and left because 30 yards off the road is to far to drag it out.

The honest fisherman is hurt the worst. Seems pointless for the everyday fisherman to fish a river that's being completely netted from one side of the river to the other- go out in the bay and net where you have open water and no land locked fisherman "hampering" your efforts to net--- we see them daily up at nugents corner bridge with net after net backing the boat all the way to the shore line where we are casting from - we clapped when the motor locked up from debris being sucked into the motor--- Washington should not allow river netting......
