Finally got a chance to get back out fishing finally. Coho numbers have been steady on Cowlitz, but not very impressive. I did see a number of happy guys carrying out at least one fish. Good number of jacks around also, so enough to keep things interesting. But this is the barrier dam, and as usual, as soon as I caught my fish, I was surrounded. So if you like people, your never lonely. But I can't complain. Everybody needs a spot to fish. If you do come, my recommendation is bring eggs. I tried shrimp, but the river is full of chinook smolts that massacred my shrimp. They still did a number on my eggs, which is why my fish has a spoon in its mouth, but they did last longer.

Even at 11000 cfs the fishing was still decent at barrier. I will take my sled and finish the other side

fishinrob I am questioning why you asked about hooks being inside the mouth. my fish was right in the corner of the jaw. I have scratches from reaching inside its mouth to get the hook out. every fish I saw caught was inside the mouth. Unless people are jig fishing corkies, I rarely see coho snagged even at the barrier. most guys are using eggs under floats. As far as whats happening in the pool below the barrier dam, I can't say. I stay down by the boat launch for coho. Its usually a better time fishing down there.
