Spent the weekend at Roosevelt and got in two day's fishing. Saturday was a beautiful day, clear and sunny all day. A bit windy in places, and calm as glass in others. We hit Seven Bays (where we launched), Whitestone, Sterling Point, mouth of Hawk Creek, and upsteam of Seven Bays. No fish in six hours on the water, but the company, scenery, and time away from our hectic schedules more than made up for that.

Sunday morning was a fiasco, the boat froze to the trailer overnight, then the water pump telltale wasn't working. I knew there was no water in the motor as I had drained it good the day before and stored it down overnight. After fooling around for about 20 minutes I was ready to give up and load it back on the trailer, when another boater launched his boat and told me his motor does the same thing. Suggested I let the motor run for awhile (which I had already done) and it should thaw out. Reluctantly, I tried it again, and after a few minutes, it started working as it should.

We promptly headed out to Split Rock and set up for trolling. We were using two rigs, one with leaded line and a 50' leader and the other was a mono setup. We trolled at 2.8mph and dragged a Frisky Jenny perch pattern fly tipped with half a crawler on the trailer hook on the leaded line setup and a Rippn Minnow on the mono setup. I ran 150' on the leaded setup and 195' on the mono using line counter reels.

I picked up 2 nice 1 3/4lb bows and a fat 2lb 2oz Silver (my first ever) on the fly and lost two strong hits. The Rippn Minnow just wasn't what they wanted yesterday, well, until my wife hooked a 3lb 2oz 'Bow!!!! What a fight! Her only fish for the day. Not bad for 2 1/2 hours!

Weather was cold, overcast, and snowing. Water temp was 41 and we were hitting the fish over 160' of water, but obviously they were in the top 20'.

Decided to call it a day about 12:30 and head for home.
