I went out to the mouth of the Colville river for the second time in a week. Got there around 5pm and noticed the water has dropped quite a bit since last Friday. I went out fishing for Burbot so I spent the next few hours getting fire wood gathered to get ready for when the sun went down. I got my first fish around 8:30 it was about a 3lb'r. I got 2 more in the next 45mins and limited out in the next hour. The bite is very light! I didn't even know that I had 2 of them ontil I started to reel in to check my bait. The bank is slick and muddy making it hard to land them. I think I am going out again Sat night. If anybody wants to meet up let me know.

Thanks for the report! I really enjoy reading about some of the lesser known species, they need their props as well. Have you tried attaching a small glow stick/bracelet to your rod tip for night fishing? It works great. Would you care to divulge the bait of choice?

When I went last week I was using worms. I was using cut Smelt last night. I have tried the glow stick but I don't think it would make a whole lot of difference with this bite. It honestly seems like they eat the bait and just stay put with almost zero movement.

How to you prepare the Burbot? We be great if you could get a picture. I've only caught one years ago by accident.

I tried to attach pix on my last post but they we not posted. Last week was the first time I had caught one. I moved up here from Los Angeles and had never heard of them until this year. I cut the fillets in small cubes and fried them. Probably the best tasting fish I have ever eaten.

piercer509: We're slowing converting the report submissions scripts to a new format, and the the Columbia report form is still using the old format that doesnt always work. Sorry about that. Send me 1 or 2 pics you want posted to the report and I'll get them put up for you. send them to forum at washingtonlakes.com
