Arrived in 7 Bays about 5:30, and after unloading our personal stuff, we hit the water around 6:00. We went across the lake to the big rock straight out from 7 Bays, but the winds were too strong for effective boat control (white caps), so we decided to head up the arm to see if it was a little more calm. Winds were noticeably calmer so we made a few drifts by the "island" just past Fort Spokane, but didn't get any action. I moved us closer to shore and along a weedy point. We started getting hits, but they were just small SMB, they were only grabbing the piece of worm and the tails of the curly tail grubs we had on our jigs. After replacing several grubs, I changed to a #7 Shad Rap in shad color and moved away from the weedy point to the rocky shore line. I fully expected we'd get into some bigger SMB, but that wasn't the case. As we worked our way down the shoreline, it ended in a rocky point, and it was there I nailed my first walleye of the evening. My wife was CnRing the little SMB and I managed to land 2 more keeper walleyes. They weren't huge, the biggest going just 18" and the other two maybe 16". Nonetheless, it was the first truly successful walleye outing we'd ever had at Roosevelt. I looked forward to the next two days!
