I put in north of Vernita Bridge off of SR 243. Water was still running high. Time was about 6:45 AM. Was unable to set my river anchor in the center of the river. I eventually was able to get it to take in a seam closer to the west shore.

I finished off some frozen shad with one caught and another lost. At about 10:30 I hooked one on some Sturgeon Candy/shad. Nice leap out of the water then it took off down stream. What a hoot! After it was played out I got it up against the boat and it measured 45" and was boated. What fun! This was my first time fishing from a boat for Sturgeon and it was sweet. No pun intended.

The water temperature was 58 degrees. The air temperature was about 85. The Sturgeon Candy had been opened months before and had been refrigerated since.......

Sturgeon Candy is the name of the product. It is shad that has been pickled and refrigerated. I purchased the product from Warehouse Sports, formerly Sportsman's Warehouse in Kennewick, WA. It can also be purchased on line. Try a Google search. I hope this answers your question.

Rivercamp72,
Can you get into this area with a 21 foot bayliner or do you have to have a sled? My wife and kid are down by Astoria Or fishing for Sturgeon as I type this out. Just looking for some of the fun a little closer to home.

Thanks!

Pradeep, You might be able to, but...... The launch is not improved and you would need a 4x4 to get the thing out. There are no wind-waves in this section of the river so that's a plus. If you're close you might drive in and check it out. I use an 18' sled and I've seen only aluminum boats when I've gone out. I've launched a 14' fiberglass without problem in the past, but your 21' might be.

There is an improved boat ramp off of SR 24 at about mile post 55 (don't quote me) on the west of the road. The ramp is about 2.5 miles in. That's about 18 miles southeast from Vernita Bridge. Google Earth and you'll have a better idea for both areas.
Hope this helps.
