Utterly lost and confused. Always viewed meself as a decent analytical fisherman, but this is by *far* the hardest fishing I've ever done.

OK. Went out for the second time, based upon a marginal recovery of my optimism. Bad idea.

I tried everything. Color (pink, red, orange, white), depth (1/2 ounce to 3 ounces of weight), presentation (tighten line quickly, let it sinks ASAP, everything in between), areas (riffles, upstream/downstream, everything in between).

NOTHING!! Seriously, WTH?? This is an area that is widely known for substantial whitefish populations and production. Based upon my cofishers (is that a word), the fish density *must* be high..

I've never encountered a type of fishing with such a thin margin of error. Any suggestions?? Thoughts? How could I be fishing the same water with the same rig with the same presentation, and get skunked catastrophically while everyone around me is catching fish??

Utterly lost.....

Frustration showing. I think I'll go drown my sorrows at the I82 ponds. :)

I'd like to apologize for my overly expressed frusteration, and was not trying to be an a$$hole. All of you have been *highly* considerate, and generously provided feedback no matter the type of fishing I've been attempting.

But wow, whitefish fishing has exposed some serious deficiencies in my fishing skills. :)

Detecting your bite if paramount I prefer slinkies but they can be spendy. Lots of guys on the uper yakima use speco cable it works great. If you use pencil lead putting some tubing on the botton of the weight helps allot. And using just enough to barely touch the botton helps allot. Dont give up we use to drift between the power lines in our boat and catch limits all the time.
