Had a wonderful day on Roosevelt yesterday. After tying like crazy to try to stay up on orders I decided to take a day and enjoy the flies myself. We couldn't have picked a better day. On the way to the launch we were greeted by the sheep on the side of the road coming off the cliffs into an open field. We watched a young group of bachelors playing and butting each other for a while. It was very cool and reminded us of why we love to launch at Lincoln.

We dumped the boat in the water at 9 and quickly realized it would be a back rolled up and heater off day. I was actually hot and had to take my coats off and fish in just my overalls. The sun was shining and the water was calm, a really nice day for a boat ride but could have been hard on the fishing. We trolled the stretch in front of the rocks across from Lincoln launch with nothing. Then we started trolling across the lake and we hook up on an orange Kekeda. Then while still trolling across another fish, this time a 21" carry over on a perch Kekeda. We thought we had a pattern developed with fish hanging out over the river channel in almost 300' of water. Our next hook up comes close to shore, there goes that pattern. The long of it is that we caught the majority of fish over deep water with a few close to shore. Ended our day with a three person limit down at Sterling Point, biggest coming in at 21" and had several at 19" to 19 1/2". Then the usual 16" inchers rounded out the limit. Beautiful day on the lake. Warm temperatures, good fishing, and lots of laughing and joking.

The flies for the day were an orange Kekeda and a perch Kekeda both sharing the spotlight. They split the catch almost right down the middle with the orange catching one more than the perch. Downrigger depths were 12' and 15' with a speed of 2.2 to 2.5 mph. We set the fly back with a chunk of worm on the main hook without any other hardware. No dodger, blade, or anything.

Kekeda Tackle Co. is a local company offering high quality trolling flies. The perfect trolling fly for waters around the Pacific Northwest. Offered in a variety of colors at reasonable prices. 509-202-5135

Dave:
Sounds like you had a sweet day out on the pond yesterday too. Glad for your success. I finally couldn't stand it anymore and had to get out and wet a line at a local high mountain lake. It was almost perfect weather-wise up there too. It was nice to get out and feel a fish on the end of my line a few times. Still hoping to get over that way next month sometime. Take care.

Good for you Dave. I think I will start hitting the Lake again. Had a total shoulder replacement 6 weeks ago and now I think it's good enough to reel in some big ones. Thanks for the report.

Great report! You can't beat a sunny Lake Roosevelt day in the middle of winter for lifting the spirits, especially with fish like those.

Thanks guys! Hey Widebear, reeling in fish could be considered physical therapy. May need to get a script from the doc. :) Hope you make it over Denny, these fish will make it worth the trip. I just finished filleting them out and they're ready for the smoker. Keith, it was an amazing day wasn't it. That one will be a memory for a while. Thanks for the trip.

I love to read reports like this. Thanks for sharing! I just hope the weather is right for our trip Dave and I'm really looking forward to the outing. Down to mounting transducers and running cables with the electronics upgrade. Only concern is a cable I didn't know I needed for the SideVision and no local source to obtain it. Scheduled delivery date is day prior to our trip, that's cutting it close. :-o

No worries though, I could find 'em without any electronics on board and I'll have my old sonar plus the new DownVision functional. :-D

Great report! Just curious how far you are trolling your fly behind your downrigger ball?

WOW, those are some fine fish. That area has been putting out some _HOGS_ this year. Hope to get down there this week-end or maybe Monday. The weather is supposed to cool down so I think there will be some good fishing coming up real soon. TIGHT LINES & MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL. TERRY

We're trolling our fly about 150 feet back from the downrigger ball. I say about because we don't use line counter reels and we're not exactly sure. We just make sure that fly is far enough back that the fish have had a chance to forget about the boat. Two brothers, the fish were surprisingly big this time out. Those carry overs make great fillets for the smoker. You've had your fair share of those too this year. I hope it does cool down a bit. Can't imagine it getting much better down there for fishing but if it does we'll take it, right? Merry Christmas to you as well.

Hi Dave - I'm glad you took time out to catch a fish yourself! You earned it. Nice catch on a red letter day. I'll probably run down Friday; looks like the warmest day???.
Tight lines - Alan
