Three of us launched at Keller and had our lines wet at 8:10. Water 39.5 deg. Fished up river from the mouth of San Poil and had our limits of rainbow and one 17.5" kokanee by 10:30. Started off with 2 broken back orange rapalas and pink hoochie on one rigger and orange kekeda on the other. The rapalas were killing them and nothing on the riggers. At 9:30 it went dead. We moved into shallower water (80') and started marking fish 30 to 40' deep and then the orange kekeda lit up. Put another kekeda on and an hour later we were done. The kok was caught on one of the rapalas on top of the water. Had several carryovers on at 21".

Dandy Widebear! That's a really nice native in the picture. I'll be down on Saturday but I don't think I'll drive the truck to Keller. We'll see how it goes.

Al, ended up with 3 of those natives. They aren't as fat as the others but boy they know how to fight.

widebear - Those natives really do know how to fight. All of the fish have been feisty this year, especially the natives when caught on Kokanee rods.

Nice fish! What size Rapalas normally are fished in Roosevelt?

Great report widebear and your creel confirms my suspicion the fish are "moving". Nice kokanee bonus too!

hookset, I am not sure which # of rapala I have but it is about 4" long and jointed. The straight stick one was not working but I'm guessing if I would speed up it would. I am always going 1.5 to 1.8 mph so the jointed has a bit more action at that speed.

Thanks for the info widebear, I picked up a jointed perch J-7 and then just logged back in to check if you had responded, the J-7 is about 3" long so I'll pick up a J-9 for another rod. I couldn't find the orange so got the perch instead, it has a nice orange stripe on the bottom & I have read perch colors do OK also. Appreciate the info on trolling speed.

Beautiful fish! Great job out there and thanks for the report. Always nice to get an extra Kokanee while trout fishing. Won't be long and they should start showing up with more regularity. Take care!
