Got to the Kellar boat launch at 8:30 launched and headed down stream to the rock bluffs to try my luck at kokanee fishing and to try out my new throttle control for trolling motor. Started motor and realized it needed a little ajustment so did it quick and WOW! Good investment now I can control speed from cabin an keep it where I want it. Got lines ready an in the water a little after 9:00 2 lines on DR one pink and one pink/purple and put 2 leaded lines out one with the orange K fly and one with perch K fly went out my normal 3 1/2 colors. Within 30 min first fish on leaded line orange fly an then one on perch colored fly, two different times had fish on when letting line out on the perch colored fly then got a koke on the orange fly, caught fish on both of leaded lines never could get any hits on DR. About 11:30 the bite died off so went up above the ferry an started fishing 2 leaded lines and 1 long line with rapala, the 2 leaded lines were the hot ones caught 1 more koke on the orange K fly and all the rest were rainbows, bite died up their about 3:00 so headed for the launch and called it a day, ended with 2 18'' kokes and 16 rainbows 4 of the rainbows were the big carry overs...:) Great day on Roosevelt rained pretty good till noon but that didn't dampen fishin !! Question for those of you who use DR, how much line do you run behind DR ball? I go about 70' should I be goin more? Leaded line always out fishes DR for me.

Last trip out i fished my riggers 14 and 16' deep. Fish were caught with setbacks as little as 20' back to 50'

Can't say anything for Roosevelt because I've never had the treat of fishing there yet, but I will be using 146 feet of setback on Lake Merwin when I fish for kokes this spring. Much shorter during the summer tho(6-8) feet when I fish deep for them. Just my 2 cents for over here.

Just my opinion but my set back is 18-25 feet on DR.

I was coming up out of the water @ 80 feet back and 15 down......made me wonder if that occurs at all depths.

Fishing is a very strange thing. I always do better with my leaded lines in the winter than with my downriggers unless I take my leaded line on my buddy's boat and then he always out fishes me from his downriggers, go figure. Would you mind sharing what and where you got your remote control for your trolling motor?
If the fish are up high we tend to run 70 to 100 feet back of the DR.

We have been running setbacks of 70 to 100' behind the downrigger. The fish have been coming from 12 to 20' on the downrigger. All of that said the lead core has always done the best in the winter. I have a set up with 60' fluorocarbon, three colors 18# leaded and 10# Power Prow backing on a small reel. It accounts for a huge percentage of the fish. That puts the lure 150' behind the boat at 10 to 12' deep. Could the distance behind the boat be the difference; don't know . All I know is it works!

Which trolling speed system did you install, the Trollmaster? I was looking at those units but not sure how well they work?

Are you running a small dodger above your k fly's and if you are what leader length do you use. Thanks great report

Part-Time - I'm using the iTroll; like it very much. We should go elsewhere for the discussion on trolling motor control; don't want to hijack bowfisher's report .

About the remote for trolling motor, mine is a controlking got it at Elephant Boys boat shop in Spokane on E Sprague, it was easy to install and works great. I don t use a dodger in front of my k fly's because the dodger works the best under 2 mph and I like the option of goin faster sometimes to trigger hits when it gets slow, just one of my ideas. As for the DR's I'l l try some shorter set backs and some longer ones next time, Thanks to all of you for your posts and info.
