We fished today just below John Day at Rufus and got skunked. We threw every combination from cut plug and rouge river herring, quick fish and prawn rigs with no luck. At the peak we counted 33 boats from the grain silo down to the bridge at biggs and all day saw maybe 10 fish kept. There were probably 70 rods plunking on the gravel bar and did not see any fish landed there either.

At least an honest report , thanks. Sorry about your results - been there, done that too.
I recently made a couple of fishing trips based on reports on this web site, but the results
suggest those reports contained a great quantity of male bovine fertilizer.

I fished the same are on this date with guide Kyle Jones. We couldn't keep our rods in the holder the action was so fast. Kyle had us fishing 12 foot water just before sunrise. We limited so fast we could have returned to the dock within an hour. I know they usually move deeper after the sun rises. Problem is the fish are pretty unpredictable. Helps to go with a knowledgeable guide.

Beautiful colored fish too. The Springers are the best.

I'm getting over a knee replacement now. If I go back by myself next year, I'll try to get out of the combat area. Go down the bars a little to find a spot where I can move deeper as the sun comes up. That is what Kyle suggested and it makes a lot of sense.
