I fished with guests on both Saturday and today.

Saturday things started out with a bang. We made our way around the back of a bay and hooked up on a triple. We managed to land two of these beautiful fish and got them on ice right away. We made a few more passes without any luck and decided to locate water that was a little more productive. After trying a few typically productive spots, we finally hit pay-dirt. These seem to be moving around a lot right now. I try not to waste hours fishing for fish that don't want to bite. The trouble is the biters are sometimes hard to find. After we located a batch of biters we managed to land our 8 kokes and a couple of bonus rainbows.

The weather this morning was gorgeous. The water was flat calm and we quickly located some fish that were eager to bite. We were able to land 4 out of 8 kokanee before the bite slowed to a crawl. It is frustrating fishing over a large pod of fish and not be able to make em bite. With this in mind I knew I needed to try something different. We took the dodgers off of half of our sets and ran them solo. Apparently this gear reduction was enough to make 2 more kokes curious enough to attack our baits. Largest fish was just over 4 pounds.

This fishery has been amazing this year. These fish are hard striking, hard fighting, and really good eating. I have had the privilege to fish with many of you and to share this incredible resource with you. It's because of you I get to spend so much time on the water to learn and study these fish and figure out what makes them bite. June will be the last month that I get to devote to these kokes before I start fishing Chinooks July 1. I have several more openings this month and would love to share my knowledge with you as we target one of the most beautiful fish in the state.

Happy Hunting!!!

Dave, do you think they can be found in July?

Cobrar543, definatly. The kokes are spreading out right now a bit due to rising levels. As the water warms these fish will continue to go deeper. I imagine by July we could be fishing schools at 45-70 feet. Because the are deeper it will be easier to spot them on your fish finder. They should hang around till they dissapear in Septemberish to spawn.

The man in the Hurds Guide boat said these fish will very rarely bite below 20' ? is anyone find this true? I ran shore line for 8 hours switched to open water and hooked 2 in 30 minutes things have changed since the flow has went still..

KNown Kokanee Killer, I personally would say his comment holds true for part of the year, but too general to apply all year long.

Dave,
What kind of availability do you have for the rest of June?
Was looking to fish Rufus for some Triploids, but that looks almost impossible with a guide.
Never have fished Roosevelt. Might be a bucket list candidate for some awesome Kokanee.
Can you PM me with more details... Pricing, availability? I would be fishing alone unless I find someone to share the charter.
Wife doesn't fish but really likes boat rides.
