Rising Son Adventures fished out of the Ringold launch both Saturday October 1st, and Sunday October 2nd. Overall, fishing was a bit tougher this weekend. We were able to get into a good morning bite both days, but the bite died off both days around 10 am. The water was rising both days and this usually changes the bite mid morning. Usually, I will switch from fishing the deep pools with Super Baits and find the travel lanes to back troll. As the water rises, the fish start moving and can be intercepted in these travel lanes. Unfortunately, the egg and plug bite did not produce too well for us. One of the major problems this weekend was the weeds. At times, gear couldn't be in the water for more than 30 seconds before being completely covered in moss and weeds. Luckily we had great action at daylight and filled the fish box each morning.

One question I get a lot about Super Bait fishing is how deep to fish. This is a very tough question to answer. There are several variables. Troll speed, amount of lead, and line angle all play into how deep you are actually fishing. The goal is to fish 5-10 feet off the bottom. In the Reach, the water is crystal clear. These fish can see a long ways and will come up to bite, but will never go down. Error on the side of fishing a little shallower and you will find the fish. Here are a few pictures from this weekends catch.

I still have October 23 and 30th open for 3 seats each day. Give me a call before these fill!

Fish are pretty dark. Is that normal for this time of year?

The Hanford Reach is the final spawning destination for the famed "Up River Brights" As fall progresses, and we get closer to the end of the season, the fish will color up a bit. The quality of the URB is very good. The final week of the season, we can get some hens that start to turn and their meat gets softer than we would like. However, the bucks tend to hold their shape quite nicely. The meat is firm and a good bright orange color through October. As compared to a Spring salmon, these late run fish are not of the same caliber, but the firm fish are great for the bbq and the lighter, softer fish smoke excellently!
