Decided to take a new approach to fishing Lake Sammamish, no bait/no scent/C&R all. After fishing for about 3 hours, with nothing to show for my efforts except two perch, I was beginning to think my new strategy might not be such a good idea.

Scratching my head a bit, looking at setup and then it occurred to me, that for no apparent reason, my leaders were exceptionally long. Hmmmm. Chopped the leaders to 18", dropped the lines down to 25 feet and BANG! Brought 5 nice cutties to the boat in the next 45 minutes. Not sure if I just got the setup right or suddenly stumbled into a cutthroat convention. Managed to C&R three but the other two insisted on coming home for dinner. (both bleeding).

I think the new strategy worked pretty good. Think I will pinch barbs next go around and park the downriggers just for added suspense.

Used the setup in the pic, 1.8" Old Goat in a new silver pattern, 18 inches behind a Sling Blade flasher, no bait/no scent, speed 1.5-1.7, about 75 back and 25 down. Marked hotspots. At least they were hotspots on Wednesday.

Old Goat has several new colors coming out in the 1.8 inch . I havent had a chance to try them all yet but the pink and the silver sure work good.

Tight Lines

LOL looks like you and DJ are on the same page. I'm trying to get away from the wedding ring style/hoochie and worm chunk. So far the Old Goats are getting it done.

Thanks for the report, Randy. Just pinched my barbs for the first time. I tried giving a little slack once they were close in and a couple were able to throw the hook. Saved me the time and effort of doing it myself :)

Are the old goats only available on-line? (selection looks a bit limited for the 1.8's)

Hey Cousinsam, yeah Old Goats are available only on line. The only one showing on the web page is the pink, the others are brand new and are available but no pic yet. Send Old goat an email, tell Donn what you want and I'm sure he will get you taken care of. Good guy, easy to do business with.

I think they are going to restock it with more of those Cutts pretty soon. Maybe they will raise the limit to ten.

Looks like there are a lot of fish out there already so restock prob not necessary.

Be sure to mention you heard about the Old Goats on NWFR, it helps Donn to track where his orders are coming from. Great product as people are beginning to find out!

Randy: Thanks for running this test in Sammamish--Appreciate it!! (In addition to the tried-and-true 1.8 inch lures that are available on the store right now, I'll be heads-down tomorrow and Tuesday painting and rigging these new, more natural colors. Check out our store mid-week.) Thanks! --Donn

Just ordered the gold and perch to add to the pinks I have .NO SILVER on the site yet, but asked as well. And if you guys read this at all at Old Goat. Paypal would a convenient way to pay.

Cobra: Appreciate your order! (After I wrap-up painting the new lures this morning, I'll see if there's a way to integrate PayPal with out current web service.) Thanks! -- Donn
