New to the state and trying to find some close to home fishing spots. Tried to access a sharp bend in the river in the Kent area, but found it too inaccessible by high weeds and a very steep bank. Settled on a promising spot near Meeker Rd that had access and a necked-down flow. Only one bite on a jig tipped with a crawler. Lots of small fish porpoising but could not ID them. Any idea what they might be?

My guess is that they 're either steelhead smolts and or salmon smolts that are down migrating toward salt water.

WA manages its fisheries by each individual water as well as by the fish. Please P/U a free copy of the fishing regs. and go to the Green River. The Green is/was a pretty decent Fall salmon and Summer/Winter steelhead fishery. The WDFW Region 4 Office and the WDFW website would be a big help to you.
