I finally tried kokanee fishing at Kachess. It's a high mountain lake that is in a beautiful setting. At 2000+ feet, the feed is not as plentiful as say Lake Stevens or Merwin and the fish are smaller.

I read 'Shifty Hooligans' comments who claims to have 'fished the lake for 30 years.' After following his advice, he sounds like he has. He said to go straight out from the launch to the far (east) bank and troll south or head out and head south on the west bank. Both areas have fish.

The kokanee are roughly 10-13". They appear to hang out in the thermocline which makes them hard to spot on a fishfinder. The surface temp of the water was about 68° and went to 55° at about 40 feet.

I tried several setups. The most productive was a gold and pink Arrow Flash dodger with a short leader to a pale orange hoochie. I used tuna oil to marinate the corn. The pink and plain corn produced about the same results. Most of the kokes were caught at 40' at 1.2 mph The limit is ten kokes so you have a lot of action. See picture below.

It's an easy drive for me so the next trip will be with my two grandsons.

Tight lines!
