Buddy and myself fished Upper Snohomish from 6am to 10am

Twitch jigged everything we had in our portfolio of colors and techniques, had several sure bet strikes, a couple slight pickups that I missed the hooksets or was too early on. Hit a male Pink and my buddy hit a female and a male.

Tomorrow I'm going to drift some bait/yarn and corkies, maybe some spoons as well.

With so many Pinks still in the river I've noticed myself and a few others accidentally snagging Pinks, anyone else having that issue or what?

Thanks for the report. I'm going to give shot this weekend. As for the pinks... Fish and game doesn't care about what was accidentally done. Be careful. If it happens more than once or twice then I will move to a different hole.

Generally I find that it snags em up in the tail, is that right? I almost think that the fish will see it, then go to move out of the way in the wrong spot and hooks them. That or they are slapping it away with the tail

When salmon near spawning they get lethargic and slow, and pretty much stop getting out of the way, so yes, at this time of year it is more likely to snag up on older fish. There isn't much you can do to avoid it while twitchings jigs, unfortunately. Fresh fish will either bite or swim around the jig hense the lack or reduction of foul hooked fish earlier in the season. Once the pinks clear out, your ratio will improve again.

In that scenario roe, beads/flesh flies(for trout/char) or colorado blades under a float will be a better choice. Spoons will still snag fish here and there. Vertical presentation will be best in places with spawners around.

Good insight! Started drifting gear yesterday. Didnt catch anything, 2 strikes but also didn't accidentally snag any Pinks.

Drift gear/spoons will still snag/floss older salmon (incidentally at best). Float fishing will be your best bet around zombies and coloured salmon. Pinks will very rarely hit roe, so if your intention is to not touch any pinks. Roe under a float will work best for coho.

Thanks Jon!

I'm gonna float some roe bags tomorrow early AM...

I managed to stay out of the zombies drifting but found plenty of other sh*t to snag. Lost a couple good setups this morning. The river got a little swollen and dirty after the rains with that the flow has increased pretty well. We'll see tomorrow.

Cheers!
