10/17/2017 12:52:50 PMI found the fish finder and downrigger were essential to my success last week. I found all of the fish in specific locations at very specific depths. I was fishing bottom and constantly watching the sonar, raising and lowering my gear following the bottom contour. It made all of the difference. I was fishing with someone that didn't have the same gear (downrigger and sonar) that was not having near the luck that I did. At the end he tucked in behind me and followed, and started getting into fish. This time of year on these Westside lakes it seems I have to be more technical in my trout fishing.

10/18/2017 5:20:31 AMI lived on that lake for four years and always killed em with two Power Eggs in either orange or yellow on a 4 foot leader with one split shot to start. I would cast out, let some line out and let it hit bottom. I gave it about 30 seconds and if I didn't get bit I rowed quickly (or pedaled depending on the vessel ha ha) about 50 feet and put the brakes on to an all stop. Let it all sink again and repeated the process until they bit. Then, if they bit deep I added another split shot to get down quicker or just fished the area as is to see if there were anymore. Process never failed me.

10/18/2017 8:06:43 AMMy apologies, I was booted before I could finish. I'm having a hard time picturing all this gear for planter trout in a county lake. What are the benefits to a rigger on a tube in a 33' deep lake?

10/18/2017 8:11:12 AMLake ki is actually pretty deep in some spots. Up to 70 or so ft I believe. Downriggers are great for getting to the exact depth your looking for regardless of species. Alot of people who catch big rainbows on Goodwin use downriggers and the deepest spots are only 50 ft

10/18/2017 9:20:39 AMFish finder is easy to add, downrigger a little more challenging. Nice tools to have, go rd more options. We're talking an 11 foot two person toon, not a little 5 footer.

10/18/2017 2:11:40 PM11 footer makes much more sense! I was picturing flippers, oars, down riggers, batteries, electric motor, live bait tank, outriggers all on a 5 footer. I would suggest a bigger ship if that were the case =)

10/22/2017 7:27:12 AMI also have some great memories of Lake Ki. It was pretty darn good for largemouth bass fishing. I never caught anything huge there but many were quite respectable. If 8theB8 lived there for 4 years I would bet he caught at least a few dandies.
