My fishing partner had some honey do's yesterday so I decided to give Lake Sammamish a try by myself to see what was happening even though I've heard the fishing there has recently been slow and inconsistent. I spent 3 1/2 hours fishing the lake with downriggers at various depths with all the good stuff that you hear about within this website. I caught 1 Cutthroat of about 10 inches. It was released unharmed back to the lake. I caught 1 large size Cutthroat about 18 inches, however, it was highly colored and appeared to be a post spawner as it was very skinny. I turned it back to the lake waters unharmed. I lost 1 other fish which also appeared to be a post spawner. Whenever I fish Lake Sammamish unlike Lake Washington, I always practice and encourage catch and release. It will be back to Lake Washington's north end for me and my fishing partner next week providing the weather cooperates. The bigger lake at this time seems to be producing the better fishing for me and my fishing partner. As is usually the case from year to year on Lake Sammamish, once we get through the months of February, March and April, I always look for the fishing to improve significantly once we get into May and June.
