Fished Beaver from 10a to 3p. Beautiful day, but sunny weather during mid-day usually means tough fishing and today was no exception.
There were a couple boats on the water and a couple people fishing at the park when I arrived.
I didn't see any fish surfacing, so opted to start trolling to see if I could locate where they were holed up. Started with a firetiger flatfish. Had a hit in the first 10 minutes, but popped off after a couple aerials. Trolled up the lake a ways without another hit. Could see some fish surfacing in the middle of the lake, so stopped and switched to an orange flat fish and altered course. Immediately had a takedown and again after a few aerials the fish popped off. I trolled out through the middle of where I saw fish surfacing without another hit. I stopped and tried casting a TM. There were fish periodically breaking the surface and I had one good hit, but didn't stick. No other hits after that. I switched back to trolling the orange flat fish and headed up lake. Got all the way to the other end without any hits. Swapped to a nickel/chartreuse spoon (like a DN) and turned around. Shortly after that I hooked one and got it to the boat. It was now 11:30. For the next 30 minutes it was pretty consistent with 6 boated and released, then it slowed down. C&R'd a couple more by 1p, but whatever bite I'd found had certainly turned off or the fish had moved on. I worked my way back to the launch. I'd swapped back to the orange flat fish and right at the launch I caught another. Total for the day was 9 to the boat, 3 lost, and a number of drive by bumps. Talked to a few people, but sounds like the day had been slow for them too with just a couple fish caught. I imagine early morning or late evening would have been better times to go. Maybe next time.
