5/11/2018 2:55:18 PMMy experience on Deer is that the fish do not go deep (60-80') til July. I have caught fish this time of year from 35-45' and almost always within 2-3' of bottom. The main structure is just west of the north bay at 45-50' where there is a ledge and this can be seen on the bathymetric map. The lake stratifies in July with the thermocline @ 40'. The fish stack up on this ledge and are there all late spring/summer.

5/13/2018 1:27:47 PMRranger66/67, If you have a good sonar unit, you should try jigging for the Macks. I have put away the trolling gear on Macks, and I really love to Jig for them. It is a completely different feel, when you have only a 2 oz jig on the end.. bouncing up/down.. super light. Then all of the sudden on the upswing, BAM! If you have your sonar set right, you will see the fish arch, and your jig in real time, bouncing right in front of the fish, as well as the fish rising up to meet the jig.

5/13/2018 3:17:48 PMSounds like that could be a lot of fun, but I have a pretty cheap (under $200) unit. I do look for them lying on the bottom, but I don't think my unit will pick them up..We will see. Thanks for the tip.
