Was getting tired of Sockeye and Kokanee and needed to add some variety to the freezer. Slept in and lazily got to the lake around 8 AM. Quickly found very large schools of perch in 15-30' of water. In the past I've made the mistake of harvesting up to 50 perch but cleaning that many gets to be a pain so we capped ourselves at 20 fish and threw back anything under 9". Within 2 hours we caught our 20 keepers with the largest fish in the 12" range. We also caught several trout and Pumpkinseed as well.

We were dropshotting using small plastics tipped with worm on VMC spinshot hooks and 1/4 oz tungsten drop weights to get down quickly. Our bigger fish were caught deeper and the perch moved deeper as the morning progressed. Afterwords enjoyed some delicious beer at the Lake Chelan Brewery (I love their "Mackinaw Red").

The video is from last year but will help anyone looking to fill their freezers with some Wapato gold.

I was blessed to be able to fish Wapato many times. I love that lake and the camping facilities. My wife and I caught many nice rainbow trout there. My main interest was bass fishing and I caught many there including a nice 18 1/2 inch, 4 pound, 6 ounce largemouth. It is a great fishing/camping lake. And, yes, the yellow perch was always a favorite fish for eating.

Great Trip ! Go to love the mixed bag. If you use an electric fillet knife to clean Perch once you will never go back if its an option. Thanks for the Great report.
