It's hard to give this report a fair rating as we only got to fish for a little over an hour.

JoAnn and I launched out of Magnusen Park and ran over to fish the Kirkland location. There were around a dozen or so boats out as we got out rods set up trolling off downriggers, working the depth contours. Saw a pretty good amount of fish marks so that got me encouraged. Of course, running over non-biting fish is always frustrating and it is often that way on Lake Washington so I had brought my patience along, knowing that the odds were pretty good we'd catch fish if we put in our time.

The starboard rod starting bouncing at around 8am and I handed the rod off to JoAnn as we navigated between a few boats. She did a good job bringing in our first coho of the day, a nice 5 pound buck with a bit of color, not bad at all.

Thinking it was good to have the skunk out of the boat I reset the lines and then - darkness. The fishfinder shut off. Hmmm, that's not good... I checked the downriggers - slowing to a crawl, then - dead. That's really not good!

I fired up the big motor and slowly power started coming back, not enough to fish but enough to avoid having to crank up my downriggers, yuck. Bottomline, someone forgot to charge up the downrigger batteries after the last trip out. Rookie move that cost me a morning of fishing. Oh well, got some work down and watched the Seahawks dominate Dallas. Cleaned up the boat (it needed it) and got those batteries charged up for next week!

Nice work on the fish.
You can set-up your fish-finder so it will display the volts of your batteries… I think u can also set up an alarm on the your fish finder to beep when it drops below a certain volt.
I think the nets are in now…. So bye bye Lake WA coho.

Not sure of your set up, but you might want to consider putting in an on-board charger for all your batteries. It was well worth it for me and all I have to do is plug in one 110v and all are charged automatically. Maybe you already have that, but wasn't clear on your comment.

I installed an onboard charger from Cabelas myself and well worth it!! Trickle charges all winter too! Nice fish Mike!

Nice fish. Is that a Luhr Jensen Kwik Fish lure? What strength leader do you use? The reason I ask is that after watching your video the other day I bought one and tried it out this morning. I had a great take down and a few second later no lure... Bummer. Before I go buy two more, I wanted to check with you! Thanks.

Sounds like a rookie knot mistake to me. Hey you got a takedown! The skunk is starting to come off!!!

dang, what do they call those... it's a lure jensen mag lip, next generation after kiwkfish (which work as well but definitely have more drag)... my leaders are 18- 25 pounds, just depends what I grab. I set my drags a tad loose and adjust as I'm playing the fish.

Nice catch Mike. I tried on Sunday but got skunked. It was my first time fishing for coho so I may have been doing it wrong. I tried a the mag lip plugs, wiggle warts and blue fox spinners but nada. I was using herring & shrimp scent. Was trolling at 2 - 3 mph. Saw plenty of marks on the finder.Any suggestions?

It can be a tough fishery... but also can be light's out at times. Give it a few more times!
