Former poster on this website "Lucious" stopped by on his way home from Scotland to chase a few pike with the Packernut and I on Saturday.
He graciously started the day by putting the first fish in the boat. A nice fat 14 pounder measuring 36". He was followed up by the Packernut who landed a 32", 9 pounder. I was in stall mode for a bit but finally managed to start catching fish after staking them to a short lived lead in the fish count. My largest fish of the day was a 30" that tipped the scales at 6 1/2 pounds. They both caught bigger fish than I did this time, but in the end, they had a total of 17 pike between them. I made up for lack of size by catching 18 pike and one bass. Top three fish of the day were 14, 9, and 8 1'2 pounders. All but 6 fish were caught on glide baits. The remaining 6 I got throwing the soft plastic frog. At the end of the day we found a gaggle of small fish piled up in one area. When we first got to this location the hungry little beggers were everywhere we casted and we caught 10 fish in 10 minutes. At one point we had three on at the same time. We decided to look for bigger fish and moved on after landing 22 small pike between about 20 and 22, in one hours time frame.
Weather was cold and cloudy except for about an hour or so in the middle of the day. No wind helped to make the cold more bearable.
Fish were in 8-10 feet of water and again spread out other than the pile we ran into at the end of the day. Some pike are apparently hanging out in deeper water. I talked to a bass fisherman last weekend and he caught a 15 pound pike throwing blade baits for bass in 25 feet of water.
