Launched out of Ft. Spokane on a brisk 22 degree Sunday morning and headed up the Arm. It was about 0800 when we finally started jigging for walleyes. It takes a few minutes this time of year to get dressed before you head out on the water; hand warmers definitely help both in your gloves and in the toes of your boots. Anyway Jay and I hit a few of our normal winter walleye holes and within minutes Jay had a dink walleye in my Tracker, it was released. We then proceeded to catch 5 burbot in the same hole, I guess that's why we call it the burbot hole. The female burbot are definitely in the Arm now. We moved around to a couple of other places we like to do winter time walleye fishing at and ended up catching 13 walleyes, kept 3 nice eaters 17-19 in. most were 10-12 inch dinks. I gave the day a 5 because we ended up being burbot fishermen and proceeded to catch 25 for the day. Would have been a great day to be in a burbot tournament because our 5 biggest would have weighed about 26 lbs. I caught a few more but Jay definitely was nailing the big girls.

All of our fish were caught jigging in 40-60 FOW. A red headed 1/2-5/8 oz. jig and a motor oil red flake 3 inch grub or an avocado red flake grub worked the best. I actually used the same jig/grub all day. Somehow I never snagged up and lost it. Both the yes and the burbot were spitting up 3 inch perch so if you match the hatch you should do pretty well.

The day ended up being almost comfortable temperature wise as long as you weren't in the shade. We saw at least 2 dozen eagles and had 6 circling overhead at one point. Also I don't know if waterfowl season is still going but I know where a ton of ducks and geese are. Just saying.
