After fighting wind and crowds(40 boats) and not fighting any fish at Lake Stevens earlier in the week, I decided to take the boat down to American Lake. I used to fish American a lot in the 1980's when I lived down there and was always able to catch fish. So here is the long and short of it. I fished from 7am till 1230pm and caught five fish. Two were about 10-11 inches and the other three were 15, 16, & 16. I also had numerous bites and lost two bringing them in. I used regular pop gear with a wedding ring about 10" back topped with white corn and fake maggots 50ft behind the boat. Red or green ring it didn't matter, I caught fish on both. I didn't apply any stink or weight and trolled at 1.2 mph Lastly I tolled a large circular pattern NW of Silcox Island. The best thing about the day was everything. Sunny and no wind. No more than half dozen other boats. The water was like glass. Because I was enjoying myself so much I spontaneously just decided to put em all back so they could live to fight another day. And some friends I dearly love and hadn't seen an a while put me up for the evening. The only reason I didn't put five stars is the fact that after fishing I had to pull the boat home through Tacoma, Seattle, and Everett on a weekday afternoon.
