We went out to Dash Point Pier to catch some flounder, since it had been raining most of April already! There were a few other bottom fishermen there, but some others were targeting resident blackmouth salmon on buzz bombs. Not too much longer until pink salmon season! The action was slow at first, but after the tide changed it seemed to improve.
We used 15# fluorocarbon leaders, tied in a high low rig. As for hooks, we used size 4 Gamakatsu's with a 3oz bank sinker at the end. I used a 8'6" salmon steelhead rod, and my partner used a similar baitcasting setup. It doesn't take a fancy or expensive setup to catch flounder; I've seen some caught on sabiki rigs tied to sticks. Sabiki rigs tipped with some shrimp or herring can be a great way to get multiple flounder on your line.
Most flounder bit on shrimp this time. A couple nearby caught a few on bacon. We caught a total of 5 flounder; 4 rock sole and 1 starry flounder. It seemed to be an average day for bottomfishing; we didn't see any salmon caught.
All 5 flounder hit the frying pan later in the day. Pan fry them whole with some cornstarch, salt, and pepper; or fry the delicate fillets in butter and flour.

It sure is one of my favorite fisheries. You don't need a boat or expensive tackle to catch a bunch!
