Left out of Umatilla at 6:30 and fished until 11:00. No fish caught, however today seemed more fishy than last week. We marked fish in a couple spots, saw some surface activity from the salmonoids, and had one really good take down in front of the dam, but didn't hook up. Fished the go to stuff most of us have faith in in the usual ways.
Talked with the fish check lady at the launch and she had noted no fish from a dozen boats with a few still out. She said she hasn't marked a fish caught, and had been checking since late last week. She said it won't pick up till mid-October. We've decided with the easy drive that were going to figure this area out, so we'll hit it mid week (no classes to teach Wednesdays) until we move up to the snake later this fall. Sure, I could get some bass or walleye, but when the fever hits I'm chasing silver. A boat ride is better than chores or TV.

Just heard from friend fishing off the Deschutes outside of the dolphin - limits and off the water by 930 - saw
at least 30 others caught in 3hrs - confirmed lotsa nets.

Thanks. A friend at work had a similar experience downriver. I just find it tough, or don't care to, sit in the truck for 3hrs anymore. Besides, we're getting a good idea of what the bottom is like in different areas and where the currents run and ebb, so when they get here I think we'll be ready. I don't mind homework. I've lived here for almost 30 years and now I'm just to the point where I can really start to learn my local area better. Stupid work. I've never been over by Lewiston either which is on the learn list, it's only 90min-2hrs.

Also like to learn that Columbia reach area but until we become better boatsmen we're holding off.

Yes, and then it's three hours back - I've been retired for 25yrs, so have been working at covering as much ground and
water as possible in the time remaining - beginning to slow a little bit, but have to keep at it - persistence is omnipotent.

The few times I've tried the reach the current has been overwhelming or like last week, little to none and lotsa green stiff
to foul the lines - with three poles constantly cleaning - upside is with all the milfoil the nets won't work there. Expect to be
on the river on tuesday and wednesday - concerned that there may be wind on tuesday as the weather front blows itself out.
Will be in an 18' north river with white sides - not sure about the canopy yet - not sure yet whether to troll or ride the hook
near the "73" marker - too much TBD stuff.
