We fished the upper Skagit river last week targeting the early run coho with moderate success, as there still is a massive pink salmon presence up there making it challenging to get your gear past the bio mass of Humpy’s. The pinks’ are a good problem to have in some ways, as it keeps the interest peaked in between coho bites. Most of our silvers came from the upper holes near the Cascade river, we caught them on twitched jigs, eggs under floats, and vibrax spinners with squid skirts. I’d expect the coho fishing to improve over the next 30 days as the pinks begin to filter out and the bulk of coho run shows up.

Thanks for the report, great to hear what's happening up there. Your reviews always tell it like it is, good or bad, and it sounds like the bite is getting good, so might head up that way. BTW, we had a great time fishing with you in June (lower Skagit and Skykomish). You really tried to give us the best possible experience and I hope to book another trip with you soon!

Great to hear from you man and thanks for the kind words! Hopefully you’ve had a fun summer fishing out in the salt out of your boat and yeah let’s get out there again sometime soon!!

I don't know if you forgot to check or something but there's no bait allowed on the Skagit this year, it's selective gear rules. Single barbless, artificial flies and lures only. Hopefully you weren't putting clients on fish illegally haha.

The selective gear rule period ended August 31st.
