Left coronet bay at about 640 this morning, headed out to Lopez flats. Had a calm day and an outgoing tide from 7am to 1pm, definitely good ingredients to a salmon catching recipe. I set up near Decatur island and headed south in 105 feet of water with 110 feet out on rigger, I typically troll with the current here. Started with a 3” (herring aide) spoon, no hits for the first couple of hours. I also use a green/glow flasher. Switched up to a Irish cream coho killer. Picked up two 20” juveniles pretty quickly. As I reset my tackle, I decided to troll against current for a moment. As soon as I got my gear down to 105 the line popped off the clip, 5 minutes later I had a 5lb king in the boat. Emptied the stomach to find 3.5” herring. Seemed like the coho killer was more interesting to them. Good day on water.
