We launched my Tracker out of Porcupine on a chilly Sunday morning and headed over to Lapham's; the big red house on the hill. We did one pass casting jigs and blade baits; no one had a hit so we headed up the Arm. We stopped at a couple of different areas that can hold fish this time of year but after more casting and drifting we moved on. We finally found one 200 yard stretch that held some eyes. We drifted this area for several hours and caught about 40 eyes; many were dinks but we also caught a bunch of eaters. Once the bite died down I moved us up river where we tried a couple more of our favorite areas but had no luck. We made it all the way up to buoy 5 and worked that area pretty hard but never had a bite.

The water that far up is getting very skinny; you better know that stretch of the Arm pretty well or you may make an expensive mistake.

After buoy 5 we went back to the stretch where we had luck and picked up a few more fish but it was very slow. Finally I ran us down the Arm to the north end of Porcupine Bay to McCoy's. We did one drift down that flat, had two hits, and then called it a day. The best color for the day was a red jig head with an avocado colored grub. Best depth was 40 to 55 FOW. The water temp was 42.5; almost 4 degrees warmer than the main river we fished last weekend. All told we cleaned 29 eaters.

Glad someone found some eyes! We were in the red pontoon and I believe we saw you out by Porcupine.

We did a bunch of running around but only found the one spot that had active fish and that bite died off significantly after 1100. We did mostly vertical jigging while floating with the current; a very slow jigging motion was the real key to getting bitten.

Thanks for the information! You certainly seem to have them dialed in most days.

Brent - I paint my own jigs. My buddy casts the jigs and then I use the powdered jig paint you can buy at White Elephant, Cabelas etc. Just heat the jig, dip it in the powder, shake off the excess and watch it harden. I quickly reheat the jig for another 5 seconds and hang it on some cord that I have and let it cool. We lose a lot of jigs so it is more cost effective to paint my own. Red and black tend to work the best in the Arm but chartreuse and orange can also produce.
