First report after being a long time reader! Launched out of Mukeltio at 6:45am and made our way down to Possession Bar to try for some Kings. This was my third day out this season, with the previous two days this season consisting of lots of immature kings and more sharks than I could count. I was hopeful heading out this morning because I heard Kings were finally making their way in so maybe we wouldn't strike out again. Downriggers in the water at around 7:15 and fished both the west and the eat banks of the bar with little to no luck except sharks and 2-3 immature kings. We were starting to get discouraged as slack tide hit around 10:45 when suddenly the rod went off like a rocket and the reel started screaming. First ocean king of the season was on, and we proceeded to fight it for the next 5-10 minutes before we could finally tucker it out. The fight consisted of long left to right runs and impressive dives as it neared the boat. We were able to net it and found it was a hatchery and about 33 inches long. I weighed it once we got home and it was just over 18lbs, which is my largest to date. We went in shortly after the catch as the wind had really kicked up and my fishing partner had started to feel ill from the chop. Time to try again this weekend!
