Finally had an epic afternoon of king fishing. Its been so slow I forgot what its like to get into a good number of fish.

Hit Jeff Head at about 4:00 PM on an outgoing tide. Dropped down a red stripe/moon jelly flasher with BMCP on a 60" leader and hooked up a nice nate pretty quick, followed a second native a few minutes later. Reset my troll path, dropped in again and landed two nice hatchery nooks. Headed back to the dock before 5:00 PM.

All the fish came with 75' of wire out in 110 - 130' water. This put the gear just below the depth the bait was at. The other thing worth noting is I stuffed the BMCP with some Tuna I use for Kokanee that is loaded with powdered bloody tuna and krill.

Nice to start at 4:00 pm, and return with limit at 5:00 pm. You might even have squeezed in a full day’s work.

Good for you!!! Pretty dang quiet out there and nice to hear a solid success story. We have been doing well for Coho but the Chinook have remained elusive.

Good to see somebody coming back with some kings! I've been out 9 times since the King season started and have brought back two fish, pretty slow for me. Caught a really nice wild one on Saturday. Tight lines!

Glad to hear it might be getting a little better for chinook! SLOOW was the name of the game in July when I was hitting it.. I'll be back in WA next week and hitting it again. I hope this is a sign of improvement and they are just late, I'm worried it might be turning out to be a bad chinook year.. Good luck

I think it was just a few fish that were moving through that day. I fished hard Thursday, Friday, Saturday, & Sunday last week and did not find any hatchery chinook. I honestly don't think I was a chinook landed by any of the 100's of boats I saw on any of those days. I'm sure there were probably a few caught, but IMHO the fish are not late. It just seems like a really low numbers year.

My advice would be to move further south to area 11 or 13 and give it shot down there for chinook.

I've been closely following the "creel reports" from WDFW (https://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/reports/creel/puget) and have graphed out the chinook per boat in area 10 for every day this season as well as 2019 and 2018.

It's not your imagination, in 2018 the average success rate throughout the Chinook season was .364 Chinook per boat. In 2019 average was .439 Chinook per boat. So far for 2020 the average is .119 so we are way, way down vs past two years. So far there has not been a single day in 2020 where your chances were better vs the same day in 2019 or 2018.
