Braved the smoke yesterday. Left around 1030am and back at 330pm. Smoke density really increased as I was fishing (the forecast and timing was pretty spot on). Wore one of my semi-used N95's I still possess to facilitate being on the lake. There were quite a few fisherman out and a few surfers. Very few mask wearing individuals, surprising since the smoke was already at the dangerous and getting worse. I guess they haven't regulated all aspects of life yet. OK the fishing report. Started in sportsmans bay trolling 2 worm harnesses. One with a large pink spinner and the other a medium sized copper spinner. Trolled around 1.3 most of the day with 3/8 to 3/4 oz sliding weight in 13-19' of water. A few bites but no fish. Moved to felton slough trying to troll outside edge of weeds. Picked up a decent 16.5" trout in the deeper water as I was heading shallow. Picked another 12" trout later in the deeper water when I slid to far away from weed edge. These planter grow around 2" a month and generally are a solid 12" by end of august. No perch, no walley, so I moved to willow bay resort. Found the perch. Kept 6 that were 10-11" and threw back another half dozen. One smallmouth in the 11" range and a few more 12" trout. Released 6, 4.5-5.5" largemouth.

The largemouth fry this year are everywhere. I catch them almost every trip lately. Off my dock on a sunny day I can usually see 50 or more on top of the water or under the dock. They had a great spawn and are growing well this year. There could be some great largemouth fishing in a couple years when they start to get bigger. Our theory for the great spawn could be the number of pike and walleye that were gillnetted and the statewide fishing closure may have taken some pressure off the spawn? I can't remember when we could fish compared to the spawn. It's a good growing season also. The lake is still almost 69 degrees down in willow bay. Could be fun for you tournament fisherman if these fry can grow up successfully.

there's plenty of largemouth in the lake just need to target them and let the one's go that they catch in the nets
