Made it out this last weekend (01/08/21–01/10/21) on a guys trip to get into some chrome! Had great time with old friends and some new friends made on the coast this weekend!

___________________________________________
Day 1: Went 0/6. Getting skunked is the worse. Had just a couple hours of sleep night before, and fish count reflected that. Buddy hooked into a stunning 16 lb chrome hen!

Day 2: Made up for that & went 3/3 out on low clear water conditions. Nightmare jig tipped w/ WA Coon Shrimp & Soft bead (8-12mm) was on fire.

-1st fish: Big buck took almost 10 minutes to bring in. Still getting used to getting the perfect GoPro angles/footage. This one is little choppy, will work on that! Weighed in at 18lbs

-2nd fish: Another big buck came in at just under 16lbs. Almost lost this one in a some rocks on the river bed ??

-3rd Fish: My first bobber down caught on video!! Knew there would be a fish on a perfect cast, 10 seconds into the drift.. BOOOOOOM BOBBER DOWN!!! Beautiful chrome hen. The kind of chrome that you expect when you think of winter steelhead. Came in at 13 lbs was an absolutely beautiful fish.

Nothing like leaving home with limit, new friends, and more fishing knowledge/experience.

We’re in the middle of hatchery run steelhead fishing. Hope you all have been getting yours, looking forward to the next few fishing trips coming up later this month on new rivers. Stay tuned!

Garbage report! Not Crescent Lake either (reported this crap as Salmon Creek in Clallam County as well). Stop the garbage and either be honest or move on.

Sounds like you will be having even more fun!! You can enhance the flavor of your fish by carrying a cooler of ice (even at the vehicle) to preserve your catch; https://extension.umn.edu/preserving-and-preparing/preserving-fish-safely Since a fish starts to decompose immediately after death, it is imperative to gut and bleed the adrenaline enriched blood from the cavity. Waiting until at home to clean gives the added stress chemicals (and multiple bacteria) time to permeate the meat, leaving an "off" taste in the filet- same as bruising the meat from rough handling before or after death- letting flop on rocks- picking up by tail, etc..
I see the value of a folding portable cage with small locking top door you could anchor in the shallows- yet still get dissolved oxygen, letting the fish be calm (15-20 minutes) to rid of stress adrenaline and then kill/clean each one right before leaving. Even laying in the sun can expedite decomposition.; https://www.chefs-resources.com/seafood/how-to-store-fresh-fish/

Another trick is using the forest storage system at hand- without ice: https://www.motherearthnews.com/real-food/fishing-techniques-zmaz72jaztak Gary.
