Not often I post a poor report, but sometimes it happens. That's why it's fishing, not catching. ;-)

Went north Monday afternoon and fished until 5pm. Split Rock area was dead, as in no bites, bumps, or hits. Trolled further north because water was so flat and finally had a hookup. Got it to about 5' behind the boat when it started the death roll and I knew that was bad news, yep, spit the hook (turned out that was to be the only one we saw both days). I freshened bait and went back through same area again, monstrous take down, but didn't stick. Age old question, how can they hit that hard and not stick? Stayed until dusk then enjoyed a flat water ride to the marina.

Tuesday I went south, not a bite, bump, or nibble, from well above Lincoln to party bay. Trolled across the lake and headed downstream and my wife had a strike, twice, but no hookup. Bait check showed bare hooks so refreshed bait in hopes of some action. Another hour or so, and we hit a spot where my wife had two bumps, then on a reverse pattern through same spot I had one. We both agreed it was time to call it a day so pulled gear and headed for the marina, another flat water trip all the way to entry - that's rare.

Spoke to a couple friends who live there and were recovering as we launched Monday afternoon, one had a one the other none.

I varied speed and patterns a lot and didn't matter. Surface temps were 40°, air temps 31° - 33°, fog layer over the reservoir created a cold inversion.

I know what you're talking about. I was down last Saturday and had 2 hits and no hook ups. Seems so statically improbable that you can troll 3 rods over that much water and get so little action when you know that your methods work. It's enough to make an old guy cranky and want revenge. We'll get em yet.

Think things will improve over the next few weeks once drawdown stabilizes. I'd heard reports of poor catching before we planned our trip but that wasn't stopping me from trying. Can enjoy quiet, serene, flat water trolling enjoying scenery just as much as hectic deck action. :-)

Think I am ready to try a bit of that hectic deck action. Just for comparisons sake you understand.
