Fishing has been up and down. It has taken a while to dial in the patterns. Here is what I discovered. Walleye are coming into the shallows to rest, not feed. When the sun goes down, the bite stops. However if you have a boat, the deeper water produces all night long. Light has ZERO effect on the walleye coming to the shallows. They will do it in full sun or clouds.

If you are fishing from shore like me, you need to work the area on the current breaks with floating jerkbaits and a constant retrieve and jerk. After 20 minutes, move to the slow moving slack water with suspending jerkbaits. The suspending jerkbaits allow a MUCH slower retrieve. Slow down your jerk and retrieve.

I have only been fishing a couple hours at a time. Today I got 4, lost 2 more on hookset. All 6 came from the slack water. All bites come at the end of your jerk.

What worked:
KVD suspending jerkbait, Strobe Shad
Thunderstick madflash, purple UV glow.
Slack line
5 ft water
Slack water

What didnt work:
Fast retrieve
Hard jerks
Tight lines

I am happy to help! In the 90s I was convinced you needed a boat to catch walleye. It's only in the last 5 years that I've been going out and discovering how much great fishing can be done from shore. I don't want anyone else to go 20 years without fishing like I did!
